SYNC LICENSE PLACEMENT
How can Audio Done Right (A.D.R.) guarantee a sync placement?
MOST, if not, ALL sync licensing agents have to research and then pitch the music to the music supervisors, producers, and/or any other relevant decision-makers regarding certain and specific movies, shows, commercials, etc. If the decision-makers show interest, the negotiation process begins. Once an agreement is met, the music is submitted and then integrated or “placed” into the film or TV show during post-production. The artists’ music is synced with the visual content to create a cohesive and immersive experience for the audience. After the release and distribution of the project, the artist starts earning royalties based on any agreed terms and backend performance royalties, or both.
A.D.R. is the sync licensing agent, music supervisor, and post-production sound engineer. This means that we are the “decision maker”! There is no middleman. We handle and service these movies and TV shows in post-production and some we service during production as well.
What do artists gain from sync placement?
Sync Licensing provides a valuable avenue to gain exposure, expand your fan base, and generate residual income through royalties. The first thing an artist gains is exposure. Where you may have or experience hundreds of streams on your music monthly, and for some, even yearly, you’ll earn more streams from your music being placed in a film that is guaranteed to receive millions of views.
You also receive royalties from your PRO. As a sync licensing agent, I work closely with collecting societies, performance rights organizations, or third-party royalty collection agencies to ensure accurate collection of royalties generated from licensed music. These entities monitor and track the usage of music in various mediums such as theatrical releases, broadcasts, streaming services, and international distribution. Once the royalties are collected, they are distributed to the artist according to the accounting periods for their specific PROs.
How long will it take for you to receive your placement?
This varies from artist to artist and it also depends on your music. Any kind of music can be placed in a film, but A.D.R. listens and looks for certain sounds to enhance the overall visual. Some have submitted their music and had it placed in 24 hours with the movie release being a month away, while others have submitted and waited 2-3 months for their music to be submitted.
After my music is placed in a film, how long will it take for the movie or show to be released?
This varies and depends on the film producer. Some movies will release within 2-3 weeks while others may be released in 2-10 months. You will be notified and updated on any delay and/or the release of the film.
Does the music have to be clean?
We accept music of ALL kinds, radio friendly and dirty. If you have a service pack, then this is a plus. When submitting your music, please submit a service pack if you have one. Your service pack should include:
-
Song (Clean Version)
-
Song (Dirty Version)
-
Song Instrumental
-
Song Acapella
-
Lyrics (optional)
Why is their a fee to have my music placed when typically artists are paid for their music?
A fee is paid because A.D.R. is offering you a service that you WON’T receive anywhere else. You don’t have to pitch your music to anyone, we are acting as YOUR publisher by placing your music, (especially unreleased music), and other services that offer sync placement, such as TAXI, charge a fee as well. Not to mention, we guarantee, placement in which you will reap the benefits of which exceeds far more beyond what you pay to us.
This also helps us to sift through the more serious artists who are truly committed to and invested in their careers.
What happens when A.D.R. selects my music?
At the completion of the film (after we have mastered the film and before we deliver it to the producer), you will receive an email with your Sync license agreement. You will need to fill this out as soon as you can so that you are properly credited in the film’s end credits. As sync licensing agents, it is our responsibility to create and send the movie’s cue sheet to each collecting agency to ensure that you receive royalties for your music.
Closer to the release of the film, you will receive marketing promo for the film which would include the movie trailer and poster.
If you’d like to receive specialized marketing promo that includes the specific part of the movie using your music, then let us know and we can make a marketing kit for you for $50.
Anything else I should know?
